La m\u00e1cula proporciona la visi\u00f3n central n\u00edtida que necesitamos para leer, conducir y ver detalles finos. Por lo general, el pliegue macular afecta a un ojo, aunque m\u00e1s adelante puede afectar al otro.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00bfUn fruncimiento macular es similar a un agujero macular?<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"> Aunque ambos tienen s\u00edntomas similares (visi\u00f3n distorsionada y borrosa), el fruncimiento macular y el agujero macular son afecciones diferentes. Ambos son resultado de un tir\u00f3n de la retina causado por el encogimiento del v\u00edtreo. Cuando el v\u00edtreo se separa de la retina, generalmente como parte del proceso de envejecimiento, puede causar da\u00f1os microsc\u00f3picos en la retina. A medida que la retina se cura, el tejido cicatricial resultante puede causar un fruncimiento macular. En raras ocasiones, un fruncimiento macular se convierte en un agujero macular.
