Insurance Clerk – Full Time Days

We are looking to fill a regular full time position for a Patient Insurance Clerk. This position is responsible for verifying insurance and conveying this information to the patient and clinical staff.  The position also researches and understands patients’ accounts and  communicates this information effectively to patients.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Verifies medical insurance for testing and surgical procedures.
  2. Secures certification for medical services including surgery and testing as required.
  3. Communicates insurance information to patients in the clinic and also over the telephone.
  4. Researches and answers questions from patients about bills and charges.
  5. Re-files claims for patients and makes corrections as needed.
  6. Researches rejections for request for referrals and insurance cancellations and re-files bills.
  7. is knowledgeable of and efficiently operates the Company’s practice management system without error.
  8. Provides patients and insurance companies with records and medical information as required.
  9. Adds new patients to the computer system.
  10. Verifies patients’ Medicaid coverage each month.
  11. Is responsible for knowing the work schedule, observing work hours and maintaining a good attendance record.  (See attached attendance and punctuality requirements. Attends in-service programs.
  12. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with supervisors, employees, patients, customers and the public. Exemplifies the Company’s Five Star Program.
  13. Follows all corporate and departmental policies and procedures and complies with the Employee Handbook.
  14. Performs other tasks as needed or directed.

DEGREE OF SUPERVISION:

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Accountability: Reports directly to the Supervisor of Patient Insurance.
  2. Education or Training: Must be a graduate of an accredited high school.
  3. Knowledge and Experience: Requires at least 1 year of work experience in a doctor’s office or with medical insurance.
  4. Dexterity: Must have good manual dexterity for operating office equipment. Must be able to function in an office setting.
  5. Accuracy: Must be able to transcribe information received from patients, including insurance coverage, social security and telephone numbers without error.  Should be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.  Must have basic mathematical skills.
  6. Physical Activity: Physical activity involves typing, writing, reaching, carrying, looking, listening, talking, bending, lifting, standing, walking and much sitting, resulting in light work.
  7. Exertion Requirements: Light – must be able to lift or carry up to 10 pounds of weight up to 10 feet occasionally (up to 1/3 of the time), or a negligible amount of weight up to 10 feet frequently (from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time).  Light work requires sitting most of the time,         but may involve periods of standing and walking depending on task requirements.
  8. Working Conditions: Works in an office setting, which is well-lighted, ventilated and temperature regulated. Automobile travel may be required. Must be able to concentrate on work tasks amidst distractions, such as noise,                     conversations and foot traffic. Must be able to work in a confined area performing repetitive work for extended periods of time.
  9. Hazards or Risks: In office minimal.
  10. Worker Characteristics: Must have responsible, ethical and professional manner with the ability to listen, learn, plan and organize. Must be able to communicate with people of different races, sexes, ages and social classes.

Medical Assistant

 

One of our ENT physicians is looking to fill a full-time position within his busy Mobile practice. The ideal candidate will have a stable work history, and excellent interpersonal skills. Medical office experience is preferred, but not required. Individuals seeking hands on medical office experience would be a great fit for this position. Clerical and clinical duties will be required. Training will be on the job.

Hours will be Monday-Friday.

4th Year Audiology Extern

Premier Medical Group is accepting applications for 4th year Audiology Extern positions for 2024-2025.

Premier Medical Group is an Ear Nose and Throat practice with 3 locations, 8 physicians, 9 audiologist and 3 audiology technicians. Our practice serves both adult and pediatric populations. We provide a wide range of audiological services which provides a very diverse clinical experience for potential 4th years.

Externs will rotate through two clinical sites in Mobile, Alabama. East office is the primary office where externs perform adult and pediatric hearing evaluations using behavioral audiometry, diagnostic OAEs and threshold ABR. While at the East locations, 4th years will also be performing vestibular evaluations using ENG/VNG, air calorics, EcochG, Vemps and neurodiagnosticABR. East location will also provide experience with candidacy and fitting of implantable devices including bone anchored hearing aids and cochlear implants.

Both Providence and East locations will provide experience with hearing aid evaluations including testing, fitting, and verification of amplification. We work with all major brands including: Phonak, Unitron, Resound, Oticon, Sonic, Starkey, Widex and Signia.

Ophthalmic Assistant/COA/COT – Full time days

Surgery Scheduling Counselor – Full Time Days

The Surgery Scheduling Counselor is responsible for scheduling patients’ surgery, (including out of town surgeries) and giving patients detailed information and instructions on their pending surgery or medical tests.  They verify medical insurance coverage and advise patients of their insurance benefits and the costs involved with the procedures.

FULL TIME – Mon – Fri

Education or Training: Must be a high school graduate.  Counselors are strongly encouraged to take and pass the Certified Ophthalmic Assistant test within 18 months of being in position.

Must be able to communicate effectively with patients and the public.

Knowledge and Experience: Previous work experience in medical insurance, patient collections or other clinical training or certification is highly preferred.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Counsels ophthalmic patients regarding their upcoming surgery, reviewing lens options chosen by their physician, insurance coverage, costs, required pre-operative medical tests and the time and place of the surgery.
  2. Schedules and tracks ophthalmic surgeries maintaining caseloads by physician for optimum efficiency.
  3. Is responsible for coordinating schedule changes and cancellations and notifying all parties.
  4. Prepares patients’ charts including all required documentation without error and delivers them to the hospital or ambulatory surgery center two days before the surgery.
  5. Obtains verification and pre-certifications of medical insurance coverage on each patient allowing enough time so that surgery schedules are not interrupted.
  6. Communicates insurance coverage information with patients and researches and answers patients’ questions about costs and charges.
  7. Collects deposits and establishes payment plans with patients.
  8. Works closely with hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers ensuring that questions and problems relating to the procedures are addressed and resolved.
  9. Works closely with Eye Clinical staff to obtain the necessary medical information needed to get surgeries approved by the insurance company.
  10. Enters patient data into the computer system regularly and without error.
  11. Adjusts surgical templates as needed to accommodate physicians’ schedules and caseloads and follows up to reschedule cancellations as needed.
  12. Schedules post operative examinations with the Ophthalmologist or Optometrist.
  13. Is responsible for knowing the work schedule, observing work hours and maintaining a good attendance record.  (See attached attendance and punctuality requirements.)
  14. Attends in-service programs as directed or required.
  15. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with physicians, patients, employees, supervisors and the public. Exemplifies the Company’s Five Star Program.
