Head & Neck Cancer
The head and neck contain vital nerves that control sight, smell, hearing, and the face. Disorders in this area such as infectious diseases, facial trauma, deformities and benign and malignant tumors can affect these nerves and their functions.
According to the National Cancer Institute, head and neck tumors account for approximately three percent of all cancers in the United States, and are twice as common in men as women. Cancers include those of the oral cavity, throat, voicebox, sinus, nasal cavity and salivary glands.
A Premier Medical physician, along with an oncologist, will develop an individual treatment plan that will be based on the exact location of the tumor, the stage of the cancer, and a patient’s age and general health. Treatment can include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, or a combination of approaches.
