Ophthalmology

An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor who specializes in eye and vision care.  In addition to prescribing eyeglasses and contacts, ophthalmologists are licensed to perform eye surgery and treat medical conditions of the eye.  Ophthalmologists generally undergo eight or more years of training after college.  At Premier Medical, these board certified physicians provide comprehensive services for patients of all ages.

In children, an ophthalmologist can diagnose vision issues or provide treatment to correct an eye disorder such as ambylopia  (“lazy eye”).   In adults, treatment may address a decline in vision due to aging or eye disease.

Using the latest surgical techniques, eye disorders such as corneal disease, retinal detachments, cataracts and glaucoma can be treated. Vision can be corrected through eyeglasses, contacts or through refractive surgery and LASIK.

Ophthalmologists are trained to care for all eye problems and conditions including trauma to the eye, such as abrasions, swelling and chemical burns.  Eye injuries are serious and can result in loss of sight, so contact your ophthalmologist immediately should they occur.

Through our participation in clinical trials, research studies and continuing education, Premier Medical continues to bring the latest available treatments to our patients.
